Philip Cooke, Ph.D.

Philip Cooke, PhD is a psychoanalytic psychologist in private practice in Chicago, IL. Dr. Cooke provides psychoanalytic psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups as well as psychoanalysis. His practice focuses on (1) helping people to understand and modify longstanding emotional and relational patterns, (2) providing queer-affirming individual and relationship psychotherapy, and (3) treating the psychic impact of developmental and complex trauma. Dr. Cooke was a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science from 2018-2024. He is a clinical supervisor at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute's treatment center and the Marjorie Kovler Center for the Treatment of Survivors of Torture. He is invested in the education and training of relational therapists, offering a pay-what-you-can psychoanalytic consultation and study group to graduate students and pre-licensed therapists. Dr. Cooke’s scholarly interests include psychoanalytic pedagogy, cultural responsiveness within psychotherapy, treatment of developmental and complex trauma, and contemporary analytic approaches to gender and sexual diversity. Dr. Cooke received his master’s degree in counseling from Loyola University Chicago and PhD in counseling psychology from Marquette University. He is a psychoanalytic candidate at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute.
