Philip Cooke, Ph.D.

Philip Cooke, PhD is a psychoanalytic psychologist in private practice in Chicago, IL. Dr. Cooke provides psychoanalytic psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups as well as psychoanalysis. His practice focuses on (1) helping people understand and change problematic emotional and relational patterns, (2) providing queer-affirming individual and relationship psychotherapy, and (3) treating developmental and complex trauma. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Cooke is a Faculty Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Beginning in 2023, Dr. Cooke will be offering a practicum in contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy for clinical & counseling psychology doctoral students. Dr. Cooke’s scholarly interests include contemporary relational psychoanalysis, cultural responsiveness within psychotherapy, treatment of developmental and complex trauma, and theoretical and clinical approaches to gender and sexual diversity. Dr. Cooke received his master’s degree in counseling from Loyola University Chicago and PhD in counseling psychology from Marquette University. He is currently a psychoanalytic candidate at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute.
